12AB3 Alpine Tap TiN coated

This tap is garbage. I used to do precision machine work and have used taps in a wide variety of materials including metals and plastics. I even took a Delrin block and made a storage tray for custom taps that I have purchased. I say that to say that I have a lot of experience in custom fabrication and tapping holes into unique materials. I bought this tap as I did not want one with a handle on it; I wanted one that would store in my custom tray. As I was removing race bindings form a worn-out pair of skis and installing them on a daily drive carving ski, I checked the preexisting hole to verify the thread was correct to my screw and it is the correct tap. The first hole I went to tap, the tap broke immediately. It had not even started to grab the material. The broke off piece was so loose that it was almost removable with my bare fingers. This is a junk tap. SVST is off my radar for future purchases. I just used brute force to put the screws in and it worked fine; went right through the metal.

I should have bought one of these years ago. It’s really a must have for mounting bindings.

Nothing really to elaborate, it's a simple quality tool that does the job on skis w/a metal sheet.

If you need to tap for binding screws you can't go wrong with the 12AB3 from BF/SVST. The right tap at the right price.

It's a tap, so there's not a whole lot you can say about it. It's clearly well-made. The screws went into my Head Monsters like butter, with zero apparent volcanoing. Solid product.
